Skin allergy steroid cream

I have ichy bumps on my face (cheeks mainly), upper bache/shoulders and a few dry ichy spots on my arms. I do have a history of environmental allergies. What I would normally do is take benadryl but it doesn’t seem to be working. It seems like when I started getting the chemical peels done to my face to treat pigmentation this break out started after the last more aggressive peel. I’ve stopped the peels since but now I have this irritating break out that doesn’t seem to be going away.
Please let me know if there’s anything I can do for this.
Thank you
Alesha Britt

Lots of unsubstantiated alternative eczema therapies are promoted in the press. Be wary of these claims.  Miraculous natural cures for eczema often contain crushed cortisone tablets.  Evening Primrose oil (or gamolenic acid), flaxseed & omega 3 oils offer no real additional benefit to eczema.   Chinese herbal tea extracts have been evaluated but taste unpleasant and may even cause liver toxicity. Recalcitrant eczema on the face may respond to non-steroidal immune-modulator preparations such as Tacrolimus (Protopic) and Pimecrolimus (Elidel) however skin redness may be a temporary side effect. Ultra-violet light therapy treatment has been helpful so get out into the sunshine! There is growing proof that lactobacillus GG probiotics (Reuterina) supplemented in pregnancy, breastfeeding and early in life may reduce eczema in babies by altering their gut immune reactivity.

Testing for allergies in patients with eczema, particularly young children, is difficult for a number of reasons. Infants and children with severe eczema, and/or where there is clinical evidence of food allergies, and/or inflamed or infected eczema not responding to treatment, should be referred to the local (DHB) paediatric service.
In adults, food additives are a possible trigger for eczema inflammations, particularly artificial colourings and preservatives. These are not food allergies and can’t be diagnosed through skin prick or blood tests. Consultation with a dietitian to trial an elimination diet may help.
